Eating Purple Cabbage Is Great For Your Skin And Prevents Cancer

by NATASHA LONGO

(PreventDisease) Besides lending itself as a food of art, adding wonderful color in  salads and main dishes, purple cabbage with its antioxidant properties also works wonders for the skin and prevents cancer.

Along with other cole crops, cabbage is a source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical that boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells. A team of researchers at Ohio State University announced that anthocyanins, the compounds that give cabbage its purple color are capable of cutting the growth of colon cancer cells both in vitro and in rats by 50%-100%, with certain extracts even destroying up to 20% of the cancer cells while leaving healthy surrounding cells intact. Given the roles of oxidative stress and chronic inflammation as risk   factors for cancer, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory richness of   cabbage would provide anti-cancer health benefits without the addition   of cabbage’s glucosinolates. But glucosinolates are cabbage’s trump card   with regard to “anti-cancer” benefits. The glucosinolates found in   cabbage can be converted into isothiocyanate compounds that are cancer   preventive for a variety of different cancers, including bladder cancer,   breast cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer. Cabbage is a great store of vitamin C and vitamin K. The rich deep colour of this vegetable is due to a high concentration of polyphenols (strong   dietary antioxidants, possessing anti-inflammatory properties), making   it have even more phytonutrients than a green cabbage.

A recent study showed that a 100 gram (about 3 ounces) serving of raw   purple cabbage delivers 196.5 milligrams of polyphenols, of which 28.3   milligrams are anthocyanins. Green cabbages yielded much less per 100   grams: 45 milligrams of polyphenols including 0.01 milligram of   anthocyanins. The vitamin C equivalent, a measure of antioxidant   capacity, of purple cabbage is also six to eight times higher than that of   green cabbage. Men and women   who regularly consume foods that are rich in   anthocyanins — like purple cabbage and berries — have a lower risk of developing   Parkinson’s disease.

The antioxidant pigment may also reduce blood vessel hardening and improve overall heart health. Other studies   have shown that anthocyanins may help reduce the risk of heart disease and  diabetes. Purple cabbage is rich in these antioxidants which has also been found to make skin supple and clear.

Fiber

A   1-cup serving of chopped purple cabbage provides 2 g of fiber, or 8   percent of the 25-g daily value as recommended by the Food and Drug   Administration. Dietary fiber prevents excess cholesterol from entering   your bloodstream through the wall of your small intestine; the fiber   absorbs the cholesterol and excretes it through the waste elimination   process.

Potassium

The   potassium content in 1 cup of chopped purple cabbage is 216 mg, or 6   percent of the 3500-mg daily value. Potassium keeps your body’s fluid   level from fluctuating to unhealthy volumes, preventing   potassium-related blood pressure disorders. It also prevents heart   muscle stress by supporting the contraction that fuels your heartbeat.

Vitamin C

The   vitamin C content in purple cabbage is nutritionally significant. A   1-cup serving provides 51 mg, or 85 percent, of the 60-mg daily   requirement. Cooking decomposes some of the nutrient. Raw purple cabbage   contains a higher level of vitamin C than it does when cooked. Vitamin C   is an effective antioxidant. It protects cells from the DNA and   compositional destruction that metabolic toxins often cause.

Vitamin A

The   vitamin A content in purple cabbage is 20 percent of the 5000 IU   required each day, or 993 IU per 1-cup serving. Vitamin A is a nutrient   that provides a variety of functions in your body. It produces retina   pigments for your eyes, maintains vision health and improves vision at   night. It also supports your body’s immune response, reducing your risk   of microbial infection.

Research suggests that boiling or cooking purple cabbage reduces its anti-carcinogenic properties. The best way to eat it is raw in salads and quickly after it is prepared since the oxidation process evolves quickly in this leafy vegetable. I personally enjoy it with a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil.  It makes the perfect appetizer or side-dish to any meal.

Cholesterol lowering statins found to damage peripheral nerves

Have the nerve-damaging properties of statin drugs now been confirmed? There are over 300 adverse health effects associated with the use of this chemical class of cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins, with myotoxicity (muscle-damaging) and neurotoxicity (nerve-damaging) top on the list. When will the FDA step in and warn the public, as proof of the problem in the biomedical literature reaches an alarming level of clarity?

The neurotoxicity of statin drugs are back in the news. Following on the heels of the FDA decision earlier this year to require statin drugs manufacturers to add “memory loss” as a side effect of this chemical class, a new study in published in the Journal of Diabetes reveals a clear association between statin use and peripheral neuropathy in a US population 40 years of age and older.

The study found “The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy was significantly higher among those who used statins compared to those who did not (23.5% vs. 13.5%; p < 0.01),” which is a 75% increase in relative risk.

Case reports of statin-induced peripheral neuropathy have existed in the medical literature for over 15 years.[i] Now, larger human studies are confirming that statin drugs do damage to the peripheral nerves. Moreover, much of the damage is occurring below the threshold of clinical surveillance, silently causing harm in unsuspecting patients.

For example, in 2011, the results of a 36-month prospective clinical and neurophysiological follow-up of patients treated with statins over 3 years was published in the journal Neuro Endocrinology Letters, revealed in forty-two patients that despite the fact that they did not report subjective symptoms typical for peripheral neuropathy, damage was occurring.[ii] They concluded: “The study confirmed that long-term treatment with statins caused a clinically silent but still definite damage to peripheral nerves when the treatment lasts longer than 2 years.” Click the hyperlink to view all 9 studies on statin-induced peripheral neuropathy on Greenmedinfo.com. Or, view an even more sizeable dataset (54 studies) on statin-associated neurotoxicity.

While this research is adding to a growing awareness of the nerve-damaging properties of statins, this side effect is just the tip of a massive iceberg of under reported deleterious effects. For example, our project has identified 314 possible adverse effects of statins thus far. Conversely, we have identified a wide range of health benefits of cholesterol, running diametrically opposed to the over-simplification inherent in the cholesterol hypothesis (some say “cholesterol myth“) of heart disease causation.

Having a ‘harmless’ ultrasound? Beware of serious infections

by: Sherry Baker, Health Sciences Editor

(NaturalNews) Unlike when you have an x-ray or CT scan, you are not exposed to  ionizing radiation exposure when you have an ultrasound test. Instead, the  ultrasound machine creates images using high-frequency sound waves which reflect  off body structures to create images of various parts of the body. Ultrasounds  are very common and are used for examining breasts, unborn babies, arms and  legs, hearts, ovaries and more.

A transducer (handheld probe) slides over  the area being examined and the whole test is painless. Sounds harmless, right?  Not necessarily.

While some people have raised questions about the  high-frequency sounds damaging fetuses, now there is another concern. It turns  out that reports are accumulating that show the clear, water-based conducting  gel that’s applied to the skin so the transducer will slide easily can be  contaminated with bacteria that can cause life-threatening illnesses.

In  the upcoming December issue of Infection Control and Hospital  Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of  America, guidelines are being proposed by epidemiologists from Beaumont  Health System in hopes of reducing the risk of infection from contaminated gels.  The recommendations are based on the authors’ firsthand experiences with an  outbreak of Pseudomonas aeruginosa that was traced to ultrasound transmission  gel contaminated with this bacteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause serious  infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections  and bacteremia (spread of the bacteria to the bloodstream). It is especially  dangerous in patients with compromised immune systems. And it can be  fatal.

In December of 2011, researchers discovered an unusual cluster of  Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a cardiovascular surgery intensive care unit during  routine infection control surveillance. The outbreak was tracked down to bottles  of ultrasound  transmission gel that were contaminated during the manufacturing process and  that were being used for intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. This  information eventually resulted in a national recall of the  product.

Unfortunately, it turns out that this wasn’t a one-time fluke  that can be blamed on a sloppy manufacturer. An investigation found these gels  can actually serve as mediums for bacterial growth. Additional studies have now  shown contaminated gels were source of other outbreaks of infection in the last  20 years.

“After our investigation of the Pseudomonas outbreak last year  linked the source of the outbreak to contaminated ultrasound gel, we were  surprised to find that very little guidance is available on appropriate uses for  different ultrasound gel products,” said Susan Oleszkowicz, MPH, lead author of  the paper, in a statement to the media.

The new proposed guidelines for  recommended uses of ultrasound transmission gels call on manufacturers of  ultrasound gel and professional societies to take an active role in developing  recommendations for appropriate and intended use of these products. The  guidelines specifically point out the critical need for sterile, single-dose  ultrasound gel in any invasive procedure or procedures involving non-intact skin  or fresh surgical wounds and the fact that sterile, single-dose ultrasound gel  should be used with newborns or critically ill children. The authors also state  that multi-dose, non-sterile gel can still be used on intact skin, but  potentially contaminated containers should be sealed appropriately when not in  use, and replaced when empty, not simply  refilled.

Cures To Autism Do Exist

by DAVE MIHALOVIC

Far too many medical professionals swiftly encourage the route of standard (yet outdated) medications for autism and ignore the abundance of science and research that currently supports effective recovery protocols. Such protocols do lead to cures for many children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs) and as healers, we must embrace them at all levels if we’re to ever unleash reliable methods of treatment to the over one million children with autism. (PressTV)

The first perception we must eliminate from our discourse on this subject is that vaccines are the primary cause of autism. There are few advocates more against vaccinations than myself. I have asserted repetitively over the years that when it comes to vaccines, don’t sit on the fence and that most of the evidence now suggests that the healthiest children in the future will be unvaccinated.

However, after years of researching studies and filtering through piles of scientific data, it has been impossible to conclusively link vaccines as the primary cause of autism. That doesn’t mean vaccines are not a contributor or that there is no correlation with the incidence of children with ASDs, because there is. What it means is that there is no basis for causation without considering the multitudes of other factors involved, such as the abundance of toxins and pollutants in our foods, environment and the obvious genetic predisposition which can no longer be denied. If vaccines were scientifically defined as primary causation for ASDs, then every child vaccinated would be diagnosed with some form of autism. This simply is not the case.

Once we have relieved ourselves of the confusion on that very controversial issue, we can then remove the guilt and anger associated with what we term vaccine-injured children and focus on recovery and treatment protocols that actually work.

Making Strides To Help Children With Autism

According to the Journal of the American Association of Pediatrics, mothers of autistic children maintain remarkable strengths in creating parent-child relationships and social support. I’ve known many parents who have austistic children and always reflect on the same thought, “they picked the right parents.” The strength of these parents and the determination in their character to rid the disease is really something quite incredible. Look at the video above if you doubt that.

For an overwhelmed parent looking for answers, the amount of scientific and medical information about autism is staggering. In fact, if you Google “autism”, you’ll get over 76 million links to weed through! Thanks to the efforts of many talented and dedicated scientists, critical discoveries have been made that help understand the decline into and recovery from autism. This information is being used to recover autistics of all ages.

Autism is a complex biological disorder involving simultaneous and interrelated dysfunction of the detoxification, immune, digestive and neurological systems.

Gluten-Free, Casein Free Diets

While dietary strategies may not appear to be doing much in the short-term, the long-term benefits can be outstanding. Many parents have claimed a high degree of success from dietary strategies to reduce the symptoms of ASD. According to researchers from Penn State a gluten-free, casein-free diet may lead to improvements in behavior and physiological symptoms in children diagnosed with ASD.

“Research has shown that children with ASD commonly have GI [gastrointestinal] symptoms,” said Christine Pennesi, medical student at Penn State College of Medicine. “Notably, a greater proportion of our study population reported GI and allergy symptoms than what is seen in the general pediatric population. Some experts have suggested that gluten- and casein-derived peptides cause an immune response in children with ASD, and others have proposed that the peptides could trigger GI symptoms and behavioral problems.”

“Gluten and casein seem to be the most immunoreactive,” Klein said. “A child’s skin and blood tests for gluten and casein allergies can be negative, but the child still can have a localized immune response in the gut that can lead to behavioral and psychological symptoms. When you add that in with autism you can get an exacerbation of effects.”

“If parents are going to try a gluten-free, casein-free diet with their children, they really need to stick to it in order to receive the possible benefits,” she said.

Detoxification and Immune Systems

In the body of an autistic individual, portions of the detoxification system, as well as specific metabolic processes become dysfunctional, leading to a diminished ability to completely break down certain foods. When analyzed by sophisticated scientific instruments, a portion of these partially digested substances are shown to resemble morphine (yes, morphine). These neurotoxins (opioid substances) leak out of the digestive tract, into the blood stream and attack the brain/nervous system, producing the symptoms and complications associated with autism. Diminished levels of critical substances such as glutathione (resulting in oxidative stress) keep this process in place.

Recovery of autism requires:

– Stop the production of neurotoxins (opioid substances)

– Reduce or eliminate oxidative stress

– Heal the nervous system

In October of 2001, a team of clinicians and researchers led by William Walsh, Ph.D. then at the Pheiffer Treatment Center, affiliated with the Health Research Institute now of Warrenville, IL, made available a scientific study entitled “Metallothionein and Autism”. Metallothionein is a protein that is critical to the process of detoxification of harmful substances, particularly heavy metals and toxic chemicals.

The paper describes a study of 503 patients on the autism spectrum vs. aged-matched non-autistic patients. The conclusion of this study was that “most autistic patients exhibit evidence of metallothionein (MT) dysfunction and this dysfunction may be a universal characteristic of autism-spectrum disorders”.

Translation: the detox systems of autistics are impaired.

Walsh also concluded that “MT dysfunction and autism may result from the intersection of two factors: (a) a genetic defect involving marginal or defective MT functioning, followed by (b) an environmental insult during early development which disables MT.”

According to Walsh’s paper, once MT becomes compromised, a host of other dysfunctions occur, including:

Detoxification of mercury and other toxic metals

Development and functioning of the immune system

-Development and paring of brain neurons

-Regulation of zinc and copper levels in blood

Prevention of yeast overgrowth in the intestines

Production of enzymes that break down casein and gluten

Response to intestinal inflammation

-Production of stomach acid

-Taste and texture discrimination of tongue epithelia

-Hippocampus function and behavior control

-Development of emotional memory

Walsh’s paper continues: “Examples of biochemical factors which can disable MT proteins include (a) severe zinc depletion, (b) abnormalities in the glutathione redox system, (c) cysteine deficiency, and (d) malfunction of metal regulating elements (MRE’s).”

Glutathione is frequently mentioned in biomedical discussions of autism due to its critical role in the detoxification pathway. Glutathione is produced by a metabolic process known as the methionine cycle. Important work has been performed describing the most vulnerable parts of the methionine cycle. This cycle starts with methionine and is supposed to end with glutathione. However, because this metabolic process has been disrupted in autistics, little or no glutathione is produced. Indeed, oxidative stress, or low levels of glutathione have been described as a hallmark traits of autism.

Because glutathione is so critical in the detoxification pathway, diminished levels begin to interfere with a variety of other metabolic processes as initially described by Dr. Walsh and borne out via subsequent research. These include the dysfunction of the methylation and sulfation processes. Following is an excerpt from “Autism is Curable. How a Generation Was Poisoned And How To Correct It” by Dr. Stuart H Freedenfeld describing these processes.

“Methylation is an extremely important process that is essential to our health. It activates brain-signaling molecules and inactivates DNA and RNA (it is how liver cells learn to be different from muscle cells and how we inactivate viruses). Impairment of the methylation mechanism impairs another process called sulfation. Sulfation is necessary to produce many substances including the protective coating of the digestive tract and the connective tissues of the body. It is also the source of the most important detoxifying substance in our body, glutathione. This substance is so important that if its level falls below a certain amount in any cell, that cell will self-destruct. Glutathione is also the essential mechanism to remove toxic metals from inside the cells.

Using Cord Blood To Cure Autism

Dr. Michael Chez, director of pediatric neurology at Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, Calif., said he and his colleagues have processed a trial in cases where there is no obvious genetic link.

“What we are looking at, is cases that don’t have an obvious genetic link,” Chez told FoxNews.com. “Patients that we presume something went wrong with their brains, which caused a change to autistic features.”

In other words, the trial’s patients will essentially have no reason to have autism — or at least no genetic markers for the disease. This means they must have presumably developed it through another factor, such as the environment or exposure to an infection.

Chez got the idea to ‘treat’ autism with cord blood stem cells when he observed the cells make a big difference for a little boy who had cerebral palsy.

Elisa Rudgers of Sacramento, Calif., had a normal pregnancy — but a difficult delivery. Her son, Rydr, was stuck for seven hours in the birthing canal, so doctors used a vacuum to remove him. At birth, he was not moving or breathing, and he had no lower brain function. Rydr spent six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 11 months old..

Rydr’s parents chose to bank his cord blood at birth with CBR — a cord blood storage company based in Arizona that will provide Chez with participants for his trial.

Rydr received his first infusion at 15 months old. This was a child who couldn’t walk, talk or eat on his own — but he began crawling three months later.

After the second infusion, he began walking and talking, and after the third infusion, Rydr was also able to chew and swallow soft foods.

“I can verify he definitely got better,” Chez said.

Now, Chez wants to put Rydr’s experience to work for children with autism.

Chez will give 30 kids infusions of their own cord blood cells. Most of the children for the trial have already been lined up, and they have been screened to make sure they don’t have any other issues that may have caused their autism (for example, Fragile X syndrome, stroke, head injury or prematurity).

Using the child’s own cord blood will make the study safe and ethical — plus, the cells are younger and have not been exposed to environmental factors, like viruses or chemicals, which can alter the cell’s function and structure. By using the children’s own stem cells, their bodies cannot reject them.

However, in the future, a sibling’s cord blood could theoretically work — as long as the siblings shared the same blood type.

Researchers can develop further goals when and if they see results.

The Neurological System

Imagine for a moment the impact of having a dose of morphine delivered into your bloodstream and brain after every meal, day in and day out. Now observe the way an autistic child or adult behaves. Is it possible that they have been living under the burden of a highly potent and destructive opioid neurotoxin on a daily basis for a large portion of their lives?

Following are quotes from “Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder: A Mother’s Story of Research & Recovery” by Karyn Seroussi, which beautifully describes the recovery of her son from autism via diet. “…these opiates, if they are permitted to enter the brain, can have a widespread effect on the nervous system similar to that of hallucinogenic drugs; and this results, in a developing child’s brain, in autistic behaviors. The proof of this lies in the presence of such drugs in the urine of the autistic children.

These effects will include disrupting neurotransmission in all the main systems (dopamine, serotonin, GABA, etc.). Consequently, perceptions by all of the senses (hearing, sight, taste, proprioception, pain, etc.) will be affected to a varying degree. At the same time, so will the ability to filter out what is important from what is not.” From “Unravelling the Mysteries of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder” by Karyn Seroussi.

Other evidence that morphine-like substances are reaching the brain is the frequent observation that autistics tend to crave and eat the same food, diary and wheat based, all the time. Mac and cheese. Pizza. They appear to be addicted to their own food. They fly into fits when they don’t get it. Once they eat it they appear to lapse into a “food coma” until the addiction once again overwhelms them and they demand more.

Other observed neurological manifestations could be the result of opioids reaching the brain include seizures and changes to brain structure observed on imaging studies. But the real proof is in the ability to reverse the processes causing these symptoms resulting in improvement and recovery.

Recovery from autism:

(1) Stop production of opioid neurotoxins

(2) Reduce or eliminate oxidative stress

(3) Heal the nervous system

Knowing the metabolic processes at play that result in the symptoms of autism, one can begin to envision that reversal of these processes could lead to recovery or at least diminishment of symptoms. This is exactly what happened with recovered autistics.

Stop the production of Opioid Neurotoxins and Reduce or Eliminate Oxidative Stress (Yes, these can sometimes be addressed with the same treatment methods):

Methlyated B-12 shots

Another key method to halt the production of opioid neurotoxins and reduce oxidative stress isthe use of methyl-B12 shots. Administration of methlyated B12 via shots seems to get the methionine process (described earlier) going again in short spurts, resulting in the availability of greater levels of glutathione for critical metabolic processes. Once glutathione is produced, many of the “downstream” problems (enzyme function, digestive system permeability, etc.) seem to right themselves, and production of neurotoxins is inhibited or stopped. But the process takes place only while methyl -B12 is present. So a continuous supply of M-B12 is required. One shot (which can be administered in a painless way to the buttocks) is required approximately every three days.

Use of M-B12 shots made a significant difference in the life and recovery of our daughter and in the recovery of a number of children that we have sent to DAN! (Defeat Autism Now) doctors for treatment. M-B12 represents a real alternative for older kids when the CFGF diet is less effective. DAN! clinicians I have spoken to report that a high percentage (but not all) autistic kids that receive M- B12 shots are “responders”, and some are eventually recovered. The protocol for administration must be followed precisely (see www.drneubrander.com for video and written instructions).

HBOT

Another tool that is gaining prominence in the “Heal the Nervous System” category is the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT involves the administration of oxygen while a patient’s body is in a pressurized situation. It sounds scary and actually looks even scarier if you saw a chamber in use, but in fact it is simple and straightforward. Under the care and guidance of DAN! clinicians, families can rent or buy “soft” chambers and set them up at home. HBOT allows for greater levels of oxygen to be available to the nervous system/brain by creating a gradient that gently “pushes” oxygen into these starved cells. Increased levels of oxygen in brain cells allows for cell repair. Small studies and anecdotal use of HBOT with autistic children appears to support that this is an important emerging tool in the healing of autistics. In addition, use of HBOT appears to decrease the frequency and severity of seizures that occur in a significantly high percentage of autistic cases. (Also see “Tales of Healing” for a story about the use of HBOT in a child with autism and seizures.)

Chelation

Chelation is the active detoxification of heavy metals and other toxic substances built up in the tissues of autistics. These result from the impaired detoxification processes previously discussed. Chelation is facilitated by a substance that helps lift the toxin from the tissues so that it may be eliminated by the body.

For the most common forms of heavy metal intoxication–those involving lead, arsenic or mercury–the standard of care a number of chelating agents are available. DMSA (dimercaptouccinic acid) has been recommended for the treatment of children, however it’s synthetic form is prone to some side effects such as removal of vital minerals from the body.

More natural and effective alternatives include organic, raw, whole, pure, and nanonized ingredients containing chlorella and cilantro. BioRay NDF liquid is one example of a high quality liquid supplement at this quality level.

Rhinebeck Health Center’s Approach

For the past 25 years Kenneth A. Bock, MD, has dealt with complex medical problems by integrating alternative modalities with conventional medicine into a comprehensive integrative medical practice, and for the last eight years he has focused that approach on children with autism spectrum disorders and ADD/ADHD.

Dr. Bock’s Healing Program for children affected by these disorders, which consists of environmental controls, dietary modification, nutritional supplementation, detoxification, and medication, is at the vanguard of the new biomedical approach to the treatment of autism, and when combined with appropriate behavioral and educational interventions, has shown significant improvements in many children.

Bock believes many affected children with autistic spectrum disorders have some type of mitochondrial dysfunction which although not at a level of a frank mitochondrial disorder, nevertheless represents more subtle dysfunction, affecting one or numerous processes in the complex system of energy production and/or transfer in the brain and other organs.

Below the level of the conscious awareness, cellular processes are an ongoing life providing and supporting activity, which requires energy. In other words, it’s not only overt visible activities such as running across a room, jumping on a rebounder, or picking up an object that requires energy. It’s all those silent metabolic processes of cellular function, including ingress of nutrients and egress of wastes across cell membranes, cell receptor function, cell signaling processes, intracellular assembly, maintenance, and repair processes, and intra and intercellular transport and communication. When there is a problem with energy formation, energy transfer or energy utilization, it has profound ramifications on proper cell function. This is a key concept that he believes is applicable to many children.

When it comes to treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders, there are some important generalized caveats that he emphasizes:

  1. The treatment needs to be individualized. This is very important and is one reason why he would discourage you from jumping on every treatment that you read about or hear about. Dr. Baker referred to this whole process of individualization so well in his lecture when he was speaking of the diagnostic and treatment problem involved in patients with chronic illness of unknown cause. He refers to the process of thinking about each child as an individual, beginning with two simple questions:
    a. “Is there something for which this person has a special need, which if met would result in better function?” (such as nutrients)
    b. “Is there something of which this person should rid, which would result in better function?” (such as toxins and allergens) We spend a lot of time as clinicians figuring out what toxins are involved and how best to get rid of them, as well as which nutrients are best suited for each individual child.
  2. Don’t go it alone. Work with an experienced DAN practitioner who can help you navigate the journey through the myriad of evaluation and treatment possibilities that exists for this complex disorder.
  3. Trust your intuition, as well as the doctor/health practitioner you choose to work with. The decisions frequently are not black or white, and clinical experience and knowledge as well as intuition and “the art of medicine” can be very important in terms of outcomes, dealing with potential transient adverse affects, as well as your comfort zone as a parent and partner in the treatment of your child.
  4. Recognize that these children are metabolically “fragile” and that he or she may react adversely to an intervention that has significant positive effects in another child, or even in many other children. Also don’t be discouraged by this. Report this to the doctor with whom you work, and hopefully this information can be used to chart additional navigational pathways.
  5. Go slowly – add new interventions one at a time, allowing at least 3 to 4 days to a week between them to assess response/reaction. (Recognizing that sometimes it may take much longer for these responses/reactions to fully materialize). Don’t go “Gang Busters” and add 10 things to your child’s treatment at once – firstly because you increase the risk of adverse reactions, and secondly because you won’t have any idea of which reactions pertain to which new intervention.
  6. Let go of any guilt that you might feel regarding your role in your child’s problems. This includes the fact that you may have brought him or her to the doctor when they received their thimerosal containing vaccines, and allowed them to, or even requested that they be administered. This was the standard of care at that time and you did nothing wrong.
  7. A truly integrative approach includes the full spectrum biomedical approach, consisting of nutritional, immunologic, metabolic, gastrointestinal and toxicity/detoxification considerations. Additionally, in certain situations, adjunctive pharmacological management can be helpful as long as it is not a solo treatment, but is part of a comprehensive biomedical treatment program. An integrated treatment approach must also include the appropriate array of educational, behavioral, and therapeutic interventions. We can do our best to detoxify the cells, especially the neurons, and nourish them appropriately to support optimal function, but they need to be (re)taught and (re)trained via the numerous methodologies and programs that have been specifically developed to do just that.
  8. Don’t ever give up. Don’t lose hope. The first diagnosis you may have received at the hands of a pediatric neurologist or developmental pediatrician no longer guarantees a grim prognosis. We are all involved in the recovery of more and more children, and although there is no guarantee, there is reason to be hopeful that your child can be a part of that sometimes miraculous, and always heartening, journey to recovery.

Every autistic child is diferent. There are many children who have fully recovered and others partially through some of the above methods. The important thing is to help them reach their full potential whatever that may be for each child. Don’t let anyone dictate your child’s future or potential by limiting your options to medication or ineffective treatment methods. The possibilities are limitless.

Top healing foods that stop ovarian cancer in its tracks

by: Carolanne Wright

Ovarian cancer is one of the most deadly diseases out there. It is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women — an astounding 14,000 out of 23,000 diagnosed each year, die. Ovarian cancer tends to be aggressive and generally has very few symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage. Fortunately, several natural remedies have proven to be exceptionally useful in both preventing and curing this silent killer. Ginger, ginkgo biloba, green tea and flaxseed are all remarkably effective at destroying ovarian cancer cells and tumors — hindering proliferation and increasing survival rates dramatically. (NaturalNews)

Using food as medicine

Diet is extremely influential in preventing as well as healing ovarian cancer. Beyond consuming an abundant variety of fresh produce and limiting dairy, meat and sugar, certain foods specifically target ovarian cancer cells — demonstrating extraordinary success in defeating this life-threatening disease.

Ginger

Ginger root is an outstanding food for annihilating ovarian cancer cells. When researchers dissolved ginger powder in a solution containing ovarian cancer cultures, the mutant cells died. Ginger destroys ovarian cancer cells in two ways. First by a process of cellular self-destruction called apoptosis then by autophagy where the cells digest themselves. Scientists at the University of Michigan found that ginger caused the same rate of apoptosis as common chemotherapy drugs yet without any side effects. Ginger root also controls inflammation which is a precursor to ovarian cancer.

Ginkgo biloba

Research has shown that the herb ginkgo biloba significantly lowers the risk of developing ovarian cancer. More than 600 women with ovarian cancer and 640 healthy control subjects were studied. The participants had a history of using either ginkgo, echinacea, St. John’s wort, ginseng or chondroitin. Only those who took ginkgo supplements had lower rates of ovarian cancer — an impressive 60 percent decrease in risk.

Green tea

Drinking a mere two cups per day of green tea can slash the risk of ovarian cancer by half. Researchers followed 61,057 women, ranging in age from 40 to 76, over the course of 15 years. For those who drank one cup of green tea daily, the risk of ovarian cancer was reduced by 24 percent while two or more cups lowered the risk by 46 percent. And for women who consumed the beverage consistently for over 30 years, ovarian cancer rates dropped by 75 percent. Scientists believe the high level of antioxidants found in green tea are responsible for the results. Not only do these powerful phytonutrients help prevent and repair DNA damage but they also hinder the growth and spread of cancer cells by increasing apoptosis.

Flaxseed

A case-control study discovered that U.S. women who had the highest intake of plant lignans also had the lowest rates of ovarian cancer. Lignans found in flaxseed are considered phytoestrogens. These compounds ‘plug’ into estrogen receptors, blocking stronger forms of the hormone which aggravate ovarian cancer. Flaxseed lignans also act as an antioxidant. In a surprising investigation involving flax fed chickens, researchers at the University of Illinois found that ovarian cancer was significantly reduced in hens that consumed the seed. According to professor Janice Bahr, “In hens fed flaxseed, we found that more tumors were confined to the ovary and they had less metastatic spread. This is an important finding as the metastases that accompany late-stage ovarian cancer are the main cause of death from the disease.”

Therapeutic herbs for sciatic pain

PF Louis
Natural News

© solomonsseal.wordpress.com

Sciatic pain, or sciatica, occurs off and on with many people. Sometimes it’s mistaken for lower back pain or leg cramps. When it does, the tendency is to stay in bed and gulp down some ibuprofen or other OTC (over the counter) pharmaceutical.

But sciatica is a symptom of another problem that is pinching or creating pressure on the sciatic nerve. It’s not a diagnosed condition itself. The sciatic nerve is the largest single nerve in the human body. It runs down each leg from the lower spine all the way to the feet, providing movement, feeling, and strength to either leg.

Sciatica symptoms can include sharp painful burning sensations or cramping. Sometimes there can be tingling sensations and numbness in different areas of the buttock, leg or foot. The wording is singular because usually sciatica occurs on one side or the other, not in both legs simultaneously.

Pains and sensations are felt in some positions but not others. Walking may be painless after getting through the painful positions to get up and walk.

If the condition is chronic, it’s advisable to visit a chiropractor. The nerve pinch or pressure could be coming from dislocated vertebrae or a contracted spinal canal. Surgery may be required for a severely herniated disk between vertebrae. But that’s rare.

It’s not unusual for sciatic pain to come and go with the right pain relief remedy and sufficient rest.

Four herbs that should help you get through sciatic pain

1. Jamaican dogwood has often been the top choice for relieving nerve pain. It’s powerful stuff. It is derived from the bark of the dogwood tree, and can be taken in capsule or tincture forms as well as a tea from the bark’s powder.

If you go to conventional medical site, you’ll see mainstream medicine agrees with its efficacy, but with all kinds of warnings to not use it without a doctor’s supervision because it can be toxic. However, herbal sites assert it is not toxic for humans, although too much can overly sedate.

It is appropriately advised that pregnant women or lactating mothers not use Jamaican Dogwood, and anyone with a congestive heart condition should avoid it also. If taking any other medication, determine if there could be contraindications or complications.

2. Turmeric or curcumin, turmeric’s active ingredient, is a natural anti-inflammatory that can be taken as a tonic to minimize chronic inflammation. It’s best to heat turmeric in milk or ghee and coconut oil with some pepper, which contains piperine to help absorb nutrients.

Taking turmeric often is okay for sciatica. If you need a short cut, curcumin enteric coated capsules with piperine is suggested for optimal absorption and faster relief.

3. Kratom is an herb that is both fast and natural for pain relief and unknown to most of us. Natural News readers were only very recently introduced to it by Jonathan Benson’s article.

Indonesians hooked on opium used kratom to help them endure opium withdrawal easily. According to legend, that’s why it was banned there. It was interfering with the opium trade. Maybe so, maybe not.

The fact that it also makes you feel good, helps overcome depression has caused a stir in the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). The state of Indiana has banned kratom.

But it is available online in all other states and in most other countries. You can find out more about it here.

4. Arnica with DMSO combines a homeopathic topical cream with DMSO as an adjunct to give fast pain relief from sciatica. Adding DMSO speeds and deepens arnica’s topically applied efficacy while adding its own pain and inflammatory relief.

The American Medical Association Will Soon Be Able To Force People To Enter Experimental Vaccine Trials

By , VacTruth.com

The American Medical Association (AMA) recently published a paper proposing the introduction of a new law to force you and your children into experimental vaccine trials against your wishes. Your only way out of this directive would be to sign an ‘opt out form.’

In January, the AMA published a paper by Susanne Sheehy, BM BCh, MRCP, DTM&H, and Joel Meyer, BM BCh, MRCP on the ‘Virtual Mentor’ website, stating that there has been a steady decline in the numbers of healthy volunteers willing to participate in clinical trials. [1]

The AMA believes that more people should want to help in the development of new vaccinations. They stated:

“Reasons for this decline are unclear but are likely to be multifaceted. One familiar problem is the payment of volunteers. To date, the relatively meager compensation that participants often receive could be seen to belittle and undervalue the contribution of these individuals to global health.”

VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION TO BECOME A THING OF THE PAST

Because of the decline in willing volunteers, the AMA has decided that volunteer participation in vaccination trials should become a thing of the past. They said:

“If progression of promising vaccines from the lab to the clinic is to remain unaffected and financial inducement is an ethically unacceptable solution to the recruitment shortage, other strategies need to be considered. Compulsory involvement in vaccine studies is one alternative solution that is not as outlandish as it might seem on first consideration. Many societies already mandate that citizens undertake activities for the good of society; in several European countries registration for organ-donation has switched from “opt-in” (the current U.S. system) to “opt out” systems (in which those who do not specifically register as non-donors are presumed to consent to donation, and most societies expect citizens to undertake jury service when called upon.”

That’s right; according to the AMA we should all sign ‘opt out’ forms if we do not want to participate in vaccination trials. If, for some reason, we should forget to do this, then we should automatically be classified as giving passive consent!

In my opinion, agreeing to be a guinea pig for a vaccination trial is a little different from undertaking jury service, whether it is for the good of society or not. As for organ donation, there is one small fact the AMA appears to have forgotten; when our organs are taken, we are already dead!

I say this because a paper released fresh off the press makes abundantly clear just how catastrophic mistakes can be when vaccinations are fast-tracked onto the market.

PROOF OF WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW

The paper, written by Dr. Lucija Tomljenovic and Dr. Chistopher Shaw from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of British Columbia, states:

In the past several decades, there have been numerous studies and case reports documenting neurological and autoimmune adverse reactions (ADRs) following the use of various vaccines. Arthritis, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), encephalopathy, neuropathy, seizure disorders and autoimmune demyelinating disease syndromes are the most frequently reported serious adverse events.” [2]

The paper goes on to describe serious errors in the HPV vaccine Gardasil’s safety trials, which they say shows evidence of significant flaws in study design, data reporting and interpretation. They believe this has led to the death and injury of many young women.

Dr. Tomljenovic and Dr. Shaw have found the following alarming results after studying the brain samples of two young women who died shortly after they were administered with the Gardasil vaccination:

In both cases, the autopsy revealed no anatomical, microbiological nor toxicological findings that might have explained the death of the individuals. In contrast, our IHC analysis showed evidence of an autoimmune vasculitis potentially triggered by the cross-reactive HPV-16L1 antibodies binding to the wall of cerebral blood vessels in all examined brain samples. We also detected the presence of HPV-16L1 particles within the cerebral vasculature with some HPV-16L1 particles adhering to the blood vessel walls. HPV-18L1 antibodies did not bind to cerebral blood vessels nor any other neural tissues. IHC also showed increased T-cell signalling and marked activation of the classical antibody-dependent complement pathway in cerebral vascular tissues from both cases. This pattern of complement activation in the absence of an active brain infection indicates an abnormal triggering of the immune response in which the immune attack is directed towards self-tissue.”

Bearing this knowledge in mind makes a mockery of the AMA’s belief that we should offer ourselves willingly as guinea pigs for vaccination experiments.

THE AMA WANTS YOU … FOR DEADLY DISEASES!

If all this is a little hard to believe, the AMA goes on to state:

“Society is unlikely to accept compulsory recruitment to a trial for a vaccine against the common cold if the vaccine causes severe complications in vaccinees. Increase the severity of the disease in question, however, and compulsory recruitment becomes a more palatable option.”

Unbelievable! The AMA is actually naïve enough to believe that society will be more willing to be used as guinea pigs in their vaccination trials, if the trials are for deadly diseases!

In my opinion, members of society are highly unlikely to be too keen to offer themselves up as human sacrifices in the pharmaceutical industry’s sick experiments, whether the experiments are for deadly diseases or not. I believe that society will more likely remember past vaccine trial disasters and turn around and run in the opposite direction as fast as they can.

WHAT THE AMA FORGOT TO INCLUDE IN THEIR PAPER

In the same month that the AMA proposed compulsory involvement in experimental vaccination trials, GlaxoSmithKline Argentina Laboratories Company was fined 400,000 pesos by Judge Marcelo Aguinsky following a report issued by the National Administration of Medicine, Food and Technology (ANMAT in Spanish) for irregularities during lab vaccine trials conducted between 2007 and 2008 that allegedly killed 14 babies. [3]

Hardly a glowing recommendation, is it? The deaths of these innocent young babies represent only a small fraction of the adverse reactions and deadly mistakes suffered by children and adults around the world who have participated in experimental vaccine trials.

EVEN MORE VACCINE TRIAL BLUNDERS

In 1991, The Chicago Tribune reported that during vaccine trials for the AIDS vaccine in Paris, at least three people died from adverse reactions out of the 19 participants that took part. [4]

According to The Tribune, these deaths were not reported to any medical journals or to the French and American authorities that sanctioned the experiments. The Tribune said:

“When the French and American scientists collaborating in the experiment published an account of their research last year, they reported that there had been no deaths among the subjects. At the time the article appeared, two of the subjects had died.

The vaccine experiment continued despite the deaths. French government records show that, nearly three months after the first volunteer died, the study was expanded to include more subjects.”

In 2008, The Telegraph reported that three Polish doctors and six nurses were facing criminal prosecution after a number of homeless people died following medical trials for a vaccine to combat the H5N1 bird-flu virus. [5] The Telegraph reported:

“The medical staff from the northern town of Grudziadz, are being investigated over medical trials on as many as 350 homeless and poor people last year, which prosecutors say involved an untried vaccine to the highly-contagious virus.

Authorities claim that the alleged victims received £1-2 to be tested with what they thought was a conventional flu vaccine but, according to investigators, was actually an anti bird-flu drug.”

In 2011, The Independent reported that pharmaceutical industries were exploiting the illiterate, the poor and the ill by signing them up to drug trials without their consent. [6] It was alleged that between 2007 and 2010 1,730 people died in India during such trials. These trials included:

  • The recruitment of hundreds of tribal girls without parental consent for an immunization study sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on the nod of the warden of their government hostel. Several girls subsequently died. The study was later halted by the federal authorities.
  • The use by drug companies of survivors of the world’s worst poisonous gas disaster in Bhopal as “guinea pigs” in at least 11 trials without proper informed consent.
  • The completion by doctors at a government hospital in Indore, located in central India, of dozens of private trials that a police investigation found “violated the ethical guidelines.” The doctors who conducted the trials decided that not one of 81 cases in which a participant suffered an adverse effect was linked to the treatment. New trials were stopped while the state government investigated. A whistle-blower was fired.

ANOTHER (LIABILITY) FREE PASS FOR BIG PHARMA

Of course, it is unlikely that the pharmaceutical industries will ever be brought to justice for their crimes against society because on February 22, 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court shielded drug companies from all liability for harm caused by vaccines mandated by government when companies could have produced a safer vaccine. [7]

This basically means that any drug company selling vaccinations in America cannot be held accountable by a jury, in a court of law, if those vaccines give us brain damage but could have been made less toxic. In other words, if you or your child becomes permanently disabled or autistic after receiving a vaccine mandated by the government you are on your own. [8]

CONCLUSION

It appears that pharmaceutical industries, medical professionals and government agencies have little regard for human life or indeed human suffering when it comes to vaccines. Their multi-billion dollar industry must go on at all costs. Whether it is the homeless, the poor or the vulnerable, they will exploit them and kill them without so much as a backwards glance.

If the AMA gets their way, then it will not be long before you or your child could be included into vaccination trials, if you have not signed an ‘opt out form.’ This means that if your child comes home with a form scrunched up at the bottom of their school bag and you do not find it, or if you forget to sign it, then the drug company will classify your absent-mindedness as passive consent and your child will be used as a pharmaceutical industry guinea pig.

The FDA Doesn’t Even TEST the Safety of Genetically Engineered Foods

By Washington’s Blog

GMO Food Producers “Voluntarily Consult”, But There Is NO Real Safety Testing

Many people assume that the Food and Drug Administration tests genetically engineered foods for safety.

But as USA Today reports:

Q: Does the FDA test these foods before they’re allowed on the market?

A: No. Instead there is a voluntary consultation process. Genetically engineered foods are overseen by the FDA, but there is no approval process. Foods are presumed to be safe unless the FDA has evidence to the contrary, Jaffe says. The FDA “has to show that there may be a problem with the food, as opposed to the company needing to prove it’s safe to FDA’s satisfaction before it can get on the market,” he says.

Given that genetically engineered foods have been linked to obesity, cancer, liver failure, infertility and all sorts of other diseases (brief videos here and here), the burden should be on the Monsanto and the other gmo producers to prove it’s safe.

Four ways to use pumpkin as a healing superfood

by: Angela Doss

Look again. There’s more behind the funny face of that festive winter squash still sitting on your front porch than you might think. When it’s not moonlighting as a jack-o-lantern or as a centerpiece for random fall decor, pumpkin is actually an undercover superfood – one that bestows seasonal nourishment and deep healing, from head to toe, on all who partake.

Because of its rich supply of vital nutrients, pumpkin is gaining popularity as a health food. Packed with everything from protein and fiber, to antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals – including manganese, magnesium, potassium and iron – pumpkin has an answer for almost all that ails you. Blood sugar imbalance? Eat more pumpkin. Bone support? Have some pumpkin pulp. Arthritis? More pumpkin, please! Enlarged prostrate? Try some pumpkin seed oil. Inflammation? There’s a pumpkin for that! And the list goes on…

Vision protection

One of pumpkin’s main benefits is visible right away, in its clever orange hue. As with sweet potato, carrots and butternut squash, this coloring occurs thanks to the presence of large amounts of carotene. As precursors to vitamin A, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene help to keep our eyes healthy and vision clear (especially in dim lighting) and guard against cataracts and degeneration. More than twice the daily recommended serving of vitamin A can be found in just one cup of cooked, mashed pumpkin. The carotenes, along with the many other antioxidants found in pumpkin, also help in the general maintenance of numerous other bodily functions – from strengthening the immune system, to the prevention of cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

Skin care

When it comes to overall skin health, the properties of pumpkin are highly effective. It’s a good source of vitamin C, which facilitates collagen production, increasing the elasticity of skin while also rendering it “aglow.” It also reduces damage (wrinkles and other signs of premature aging) caused by free radicals, as might occur with sun damage or pollution. And pumpkin seeds, especially, contain plenty of beneficial zinc, which may help to regulate the hormones responsible for acne, as well as fatty acids, which support skin repair, increase moisture and improve flexibility.

Detox and weight loss

Simultaneously low in calories (49 per cup) and high in fiber (three grams per cup), pumpkin is a holiday indulgence you can enjoy without the guilt. Diets rich in fiber have been shown to help people lose weight by causing them to feel fuller for longer. And with all that fiber ready and willing to help flush and eliminate toxins from your system, you’d do well not to incite additional blockages. So maybe abandon the traditional pie this year and make your own healthier version of pumpkin dessert. Be creative, avoid processed ingredients if you can, and experiment with alternative or raw ingredients instead. A little cinnamon, perhaps?

Just feel better

Besides improving overall brain function, pumpkin can also help to balance your mood. Its seeds contain large quantities of tryptophan, an amino acid involved in the production of serotonin, our “feel-good” neurotransmitters. You may know tryptophan better by its notorious presence in turkey, which some suspect causes a feeling of such satiation and relaxation that it usually leads to a Thanksgiving Day post-mealtime nap; whereas experts suggest the nap is more likely a result of overeating.

Now don’t upset yourself unnecessarily by worrying too much that it’s already too late to save the insides of that handsome jack-o-lantern you carved for Halloween. It’s actually the smaller pumpkins, sometimes called “pie pumpkins” or “sweet pumpkins,” that are really the better choice for cooking. And here’s a tip for picking a good one: Be sure to examine the stems. Sweeter pumpkins usually have dried stems, because they stay longer on the vine. And don’t forget to save the seeds for roasting… You’ll find plenty of advice on the web for tasty, seasonal recipes. (NaturalNews)

Divine brain food – Sharpen your thinking with chocolate

by: Carolanne Wright

(NaturalNews) Most people don’t need an excuse to eat chocolate — its creamy texture and delicious taste are reason enough. Yet, here is another compelling reason to savor chocolate: it helps your brain work better. Flavonols present within chocolate may be the key to this enhanced cognitive functioning. But we are not speaking of a Hershey bar here — only high quality, extra dark varieties will improve brain function and sharpen the mind.

The brain on chocolate

A study at the University of L’Aquila in Italy established a connection between heightened cognitive ability and the consumption of chocolate. According to research team head Dr. Giovambattista Desideri, “This study provides encouraging evidence that consuming cocoa flavonols, as a part of a calorie-controlled and nutritionally-balanced diet, could improve cognitive function.” Participants were instructed to consume a high, intermediate or low dose cocoa flavonol beverage for eight weeks. Those who drank the high and intermediate versions had improved working and verbal memory, task-switching and hand-eye coordination. Researchers suspect that the brain boosting qualities of cocoa flavonols are due to an improvement of insulin sensitivity. A comparable study in the United Kingdom demonstrated the ability of flavonol cocoa to strengthen brain function by increasing cerebral blood flow.

Scientists at the University of Oxford, UK came to a similar conclusion. Participants were asked to complete a detailed account of their standard diet. They were then given a series of cognitive tests. Those who consistently ate foods rich in flavonols like chocolate, wine or tea scored significantly higher on the tests than those who had scant flavonol consumption. When the diet is teeming with these compounds, the risk of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and stroke is reduced as well.

Choose wisely

The typical chocolate bar will do little except swell the waistline and increase the prospect of developing Type II diabetes. To maximize the health benefits of chocolate, only exceptional quality will do — organic, extra dark (at least 70 percent cocoa) and preferably raw. Remember, the higher the cocoa content, the lower the sugar. Unsweetened powdered cocoa is acceptable as long as it isn’t processed with alkali. Eating large quantities is unnecessary — a small square of dark chocolate or cup of low-sugar cocoa beverage per day is adequate.

With intelligent use, chocolate is an excellent food for protecting and improving the brain. As a delicious daily habit, a spot of chocolate will help to keep the mind sharp and cognitive disease at bay.
